SENIOR SQUAD COACH/MANAGER
Tom Dudley has become a top class coach after a glittering playing career that came to an end through injury. He has ten years coaching experience and apart from work done in Dorset he is highly regarded at Badminton England, and has coached the Under 15 National Squad. In addition he has presented at a National Performance Centre conference recently, and is also a Bournemouth Performance Centre Coach. His knowledge of badminton and experience as a player, of top coaching methods will stand Dorset in very good stead. His laid back manner seems to be successful with players of all ages.
As a player he won 3 National Junior titles, at least 7 Junior International titles and was ranked number 1 in Europe at junior level. He was a full time player from the age of 16 at the High Performance Centre in Bath, and has played in Indonesia and Japan, and all over Europe. Locally he has been Captain of Dorset’s 1st team and won our County Singles Championship at the age of only 16. He is a Dorset Singles and Doubles Champion many times over. We hope his skills in the coming years will help many players achieve their goals.

JUNIOR SQUAD COACH/MANAGER
Mark Lever has been a full time coach for over 20 years now. Starting out at Poole Sports Centre coaching and taking evening groups he has expanded beyond belief since that time. He has coached in schools all over Dorset and an expert in BISI Festivals. He has been our Squad Coach on Sundays for 15 years and before that was coach to the Dorset Junior Committee. In addition he has coached out Gold, Silver and Bronze groups and is currently joining with Ryan Ellis on Monday evenings for what he describes as a “dynamic session”.
He has been a staunch Yonex agent for many years and is one of the Yonex Stringing Team at the All England each year. Since he started a restringing service locally he has probably strung over 5000 rackets and used 10 miles of gut. He has his own outlet at Broadstone Sports Centre for those wanting rackets, shoes, kit etc. Using his Yonex connections he has supplied Dorset badminton with thousands of shuttles at no profit to himself, and in turn we have been able to supply clubs at cost.
On the coaching side he is one of the few coaches who can command a presence sufficient to take a whole age group of 30/40 children on a Sunday morning every 2 hours. His preparation and coaching plans are legendary, as are his blip tests. He has the skills to take children at an early age and this is where we think he excels. He puts the “fun” into coaching which is so important.
On the playing field he still turns out for club matches, and played Senior County for a number of years. We hope he can maintain his enthusiasm to continue for many more years as he is the “face” of Dorset badminton and coaching. In terms of man hours he is beyond doubt one of the most experienced coach in the country. ( probably 30 hours per week for 30 years). By my reckoning that’s over 40,000 hours on court. If he was a car he should have had at least 3 services and a new gear box.

TREASURER UNDER 17 SQUAD MANAGER
Paul Breakwell volunteered as a coach some 20 years ago, and just simply keeps going. He worked for Dorset Schools as a squad coach up to the time of merger with Dorset Badminton. He was also the Treasurer for the Schools Association, and it was a natural progression to County Treasurer upon amalgamation. He has continued his voluntary work as a coach and for the past ten years been our Under 17 Squad Manager. How can anyone be at County training every Sunday during the winter, and run the squad, whilst running teams around for Inter County matches! A tremendous sacrifice over a very long period of time. A very dedicated volunteer whose will be missed should he ever resign. Do not even think about it Paul!
He has played since the age of eleven, and represented Dorset at Under 12, 14 and 16. A team member of Poole Dolphins Badminton Club for many years, he has recently returned to play there. He was the Club’s Treasurer for over ten years. Naturally seeing his involvement in accounts it will come as no surprise to learn that he works for a firm of Accountants.
