DORSET BADMINTON’S INITIATIVE TO INTRODUCE BADMINTON INTO PRIMARY SCHOOLS
The principle is for Dorset Badminton to use BISI Sessions (mini badminton) in conjunction with your Primary School. We have sponsored and charitable funds available to help you pay for a coach to come to you during curriculum time. This would normally be an hour per week for 10 weeks per term. Your school would pay half the coach’s hourly fee of £20 and we will pay the same. We hope this then will become a permanent part of your school sport for years to come.
DO WE NEED A BADMINTON HALL?
NO, but you will need an assembly hall or gymnasium; although during the Summer it can be played outdoors.
DO WE NEED ANY EQUIPMENT?
NO, because our coach will have a BISI bag with everything needed each week. However for future terms and years you may need your own BISI bag which we can supply at around £300, but it will last you for years.
WHAT IS IN A BISI BAG?
Around 30 mini racquets, shuttles, nets, cones, targets and other fun objects.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE 10 WEEKS?
We talk with you about progress and will look to introduce proper badminton when your children are ready. We will hopefully have trained one of your teachers in BISI so you can introduce other age groups to it. We will send our coach back from time to time at your request.
CAN WE APPLY FOR SESSIONS EACH TERM?
In principle YES, but our budget is limited and we need to introduce badminton to as many Schools as possible so, our funds and demand, will determine how often we can come to you.
HOW DO WE PAY THE COACH?
Our coach will invoice you at £10 per hour times the number of hours, at the end of each month and you pay them direct please.
WHERE DO ANY GOOD AND KEEN CHILDREN GO?
We need any better kids to either go to after school sessions, or to our feeder squads on Saturday mornings or on to our main Under 11 County Training sessions on Sundays. We can assist in starting after school clubs if needed.
WHAT IS THE TOTAL COST THEN FOR 10 WEEKS?
It will be £100. That is 10 weeks at £20 but split 50/50 with Dorset Badminton. After that to ensure badminton becomes a legacy you will need a BISI bag at £300 and perhaps a visit monthly from our coach.
WHAT IS IN IT FOR DORSET BADMINTON?
We and Badminton England are focusing on Under 11’s and your legacy will become ours, as we need a large strong base so the better children can progress through our system to under 13, 15 and 17 level. We know from our experience that once hooked on badminton the kids will progress rapidly through our structure. We currently have several national champions at various ages. There is also the pathway with the Bournemouth Performance Centre to County and International level.
HOW DO WE START?
You need to contact the County Secretary, Roy Carder, who will control this initiative acting as the go between you and the coaches. His phone numbers are 01202.735944 (Office) 01425 674898 (Home) or mobile 07734008006. OR email firstname.lastname@example.org. Act now and you could start this term.
